don’t be a part of <The Patriot Game>

Come all ye young rebels, and list while I sing,
For the love of one’s country is a terrible thing.
It banishes fear with the speed of a flame,
And it makes us all part of the patriot game.

My name is O’Hanlon, and I’ve just turned sixteen.
My home is in Monaghan, where I was weaned.
I learned all my life cruel England to blame,
And so I’m part of the patriot game.

It’s barely two years since I wandered away,
With the local battalion of the bold IRA,
I’ve read of our heroes, and I wanted the same,
To play out my part in the patriot game.

This island of ours has too long been half free;
Six counties are under John Bull’s tyranny.
So I gave up my boyhood to drill and to train
To play my own part in the patriot game

And now as I lie here, my body all holes
I think of those traitors who bargained and sold
And I wish that my rifle had given the same
To those Quislings who sold out the patriot game.

subscribersgetmore said: Just curious-- I'm trying to tell by your posts if you're a Democrat or a Republican, but I'm having trouble. Which party do you lean more to?

Progressive? Liberal? i’m not a US citizen so i don’t have a bias towards either, but i do LIVE in this country and pay the taxes so i’m always worried about the politics of this country.

The Democrats have slipped into a conservative party waving the progressive flag; while the Republicans went so far to the right they just fell off the edge of sanity. this is of course a broad stroke description, and the situation is way more complicated than that.

i’m glad Obama is in office instead of Romney, but that doesn’t mean we don’t call out his bullshit.

also i’ve got drones and you could end up on a very bad list
…or i could just deport you.

cartoonpolitics:

references the case of Rachel Corrie, 23 year-old American activist who was crushed to death by an Israeli army bulldozer while peacefully protesting (standing in front of a Palestinian home to help prevent its demolition). In a ruling condemned by Amnesty International, an Israeli court has held that the government bears no responsibility for her death.

also realize that anger against a government does not equal anger against the people of that country as a whole.

The pain has only just begun: Members of the Sikh community and family members of victims of the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin shooting attend a candlelight vigil held at the Oak Creek Community Center in Wisconsin, on August, 7, 2012. The killer was identified as white supremacist Wade Michael Page, a former U.S. army soldier who described himself as a ”frustrated neo-Nazi”. Page shot dead six people and seriously wounded three, including a police officer, at the Sikh temple on Sunday as worshippers prepared for religious services. Photos: Reuters / Getty Images

My heart.

sincerest condolences to the victims and their family and friends, no words can…

A surprisingly accurate interpretation of every super PAC ad, ever

With just 99 days until the election, it’s understandable that political ads — from both sides — have more or less begun to look the same. That’s why this satirical take on super PAC-style attack ads from cartoonist Mark Fiore made us chuckle. Here’s the transcript:

Can we risk an America run by [INSERT OPPONENT’S NAME]?

He clearly doesn’t understand that America is built on hard work, not [INSERT OPPONENT’S PREVIOUS OCCUPATION].

Sure, now he says he opposes [HOT-BUTTON ISSUE] [NEWS CLIP], but he used to support [HOT-BUTTON ISSUE] [GRAINY FOOTAGE WITH DEAD POLITICIAN].

[OPPONENT’S NAME] is called [NEGATIVE ADJECTIVE] for America, and [APOCALYPTIC NOUN] for our future. He and his organization [ADVERB] attack, because he is an [ADJECTIVE] [SYNONYM FOR LIAR].

He claims to be an [POSITIVE NOUN], but is nothing more than an [ADJECTIVE] [BODY PART] [NEGATIVE NOUN].

Around here, that [DOWN HOME METAPHOR] just don’t [VERB].

Better ask yourself, can America risk [INSERT OPPONENT’S NAME]?

Paid for by [UPLIFTING VERB] Our Future, another super PAC with so much [EXPLETIVE] secret money, it’s [EXPLETIVE] [ADJECTIVE].

reblogging for the excellent cartooning, simple and reads well.

My sentiments exactly. This fucknut was in Hali today to announce $33 billion for 20-odd combat ships for Her Royal Navy. Bullshit. I take small comfort in the fact that not one penny of money I earn will go towards this blind, deaf, and dumb spending decision, not to mention paying his salary. Participate in Peace.

will we never learn?

False Balance - something the media in the USA are often guilty of. When opposing viewpoints are presented as being more equally balanced than they actually are this is not objective reporting and is misleading.
